France started the development of heavy tanks since WWI. After the amazing Char 2C, there came the Char B1. The research of this tank started as early as 1920s, however, it didn’t enter military service until 1935. It proved the French design was not practical, but Char B1’s long hull, tracks and the big howitzer on the front had a steampunk-like romance.
