The Merkava Mk.4M, an indigenous main battle tank developed and produced by Israel, made its battlefield debut in early 2011. The Merkava Mk.4M continues the design philosophy of the Merkava series, focusing on protection and crew survivability. To counter common battlefield threats such as rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank missiles, it is equipped with the Trophy active protection system developed by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. This system detects incoming threats using radar and optical sensors, calculates their trajectory, and then launches interceptors to destroy or deflect the threat at a safe distance, protecting the vehicle from attack.
