In 2014, Uralvagonzavod provided an improved tank variant to the Russian Ministry of Defense in response to the problems of the T-72B3 main battle tank. This tank variant is powered by a new V-92S2F diesel engine, which increases the output to 1,130 hp. It’s fitted with the 4S23 Relikt explosive reactive armor and the slat armor to resist the attack of light anti-tank missiles more effectively. This variant was formally designated T-72B3M and entered service with the Russian armed forces in 2018. By 2022, the T-72B3M has become the No.1 modernized tank in terms of number in the Russian armed forces, and they have been extensively used in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
